What does this look like to you?
A cornucopia? A wasp nest? A cyclone? A cocoon for some type of butterfly?
Just one of another of fabulous things I found at Julie's in Door County. I thought it would look great on the front door for fall!
Actually, I had promised myself that I would tackle the guest room today where a whole clutch of natural stems, curly willow, etc., had been residing for the last couple of weeks, and on which I was nearly impaled every time I walked by the bed. So...into the basket they went!
And here is the door to the chicken coop: a potato digger found at another thrift shop for about $1.00, holding strands of faux bittersweet. I love that stuff and would like to plant a male and female, but I've heard it takes over everything in its path. Does anyone have any experience with it?
So now...this house has been properly decorated for fall. In the next few weeks, I'll be working on the other one!

Yes, I have experience with bittersweet. I don't have the berries so I guess I have the male and he is prolific. He grows so much in a season it's unreal. We have a little front porch and the bittersweet grew up a front post to the roof of the porch and almost completely covered the roof. It became such a tangled mass of greenery when my husband cut it down it formed a huge shrub. I thought I had posted about it on my blog but I can't find it so maybe I didn't. Anyway, no, don't plant bittersweet unless you have a strong man to be able to tackle it every year. My nephew helped us get it under control this past summer. It's no small task but I don't want to cut it all the way down either. so there you go. Nice visiting. Linda

You really make it appear so easy along with your presentation however I to find this matter to be actually something which I feel I would by no means understand. It sort of feels too complex and very extensive for me. I am looking ahead on your next submit, I’ll try to get the hang of it!

I love your door decorations. I have had bittersweet. I planted two (male and female I was told) and they rambled everywhere and I mean everywhere...I never had a berry. I must have planted two of the same. How do you know if they are marked wrong? Now I have moved and I buy my bittersweet at markets along the road.

ReplyDeleteI think that your question has been answered, but I do know that Bittersweet is quite invasive. I have a patch that I watch in the woods where I run and when the time is right, I carry clippers and run home with a bundle for decorating.
My husband spent many, many happy weekends with friends in Door County during college. I hope to visit that area one of these days.
